We're loosing serial bytes from PC to phone

Just a follow-up:

I've crossed-over the RxD and TxD wires of my T191 cable.  

The two consecutive 00 00 bytes are definitely transmitted from the PC,
and the come back into the PC.  The problem must be inside the phone
itself.
