Getting Started

Its my 1st mail to the list.
I m doing research on osmocom-bb from couple of days.
Still m unable to understand what this software EXACTLY do. i.e. what are
its applications.
Can anyone help me out or share a much useful link which will help me
understand the use/applications of this software?
