Hi, below is the draft letter I composed, addressing licensing, which
may or may not need modifying.

Dear <name of person at TI>

As a great fan of Texas Instruments and free software, the FreeCalypso
project is aiming to create a free and open-source baseband firmware for
older handsets using your hardware GSM modems.

Much of the code has already been written, and as the project nears it's
completion, there are some issues still at hand which, with your help,
could easily be resolved today, both for the benefit of your customers,
and the wider community.

The chipsets we are targeting and writing software for, are the Calypso,
Iota and Rita chipsets.
As far as the FreeCalpyso community are aware, Texas Instruments no
longer produces these commercially, but could easily support it's older
users, by lending this project a helping hand.

Unfortunately for us and the community, the FreeCalpyso firmware was not
written completely from scratch. Rather, it uses modified code that we
at FreeCalypso found online, through easily available, mainstream
channels, in order to reach it's goals and objectives.

That code, has a copyright, which is rightfully and correctly assigned
to Texas Instruments. Therefore, what we are asking from you today, is
for you to allow us to use, under a Free Software Foundation GPL
compatible licence, that code, in order to make the software not only
open source, but free as in freedom.

Thank you for your time, and we look forward to hearing back from you!

Joshua Branning

And those at the FreeCalypso project.
